Tiek baumots, ka BlackBerry varētu vismaz daļēji atteikties no BlackBerry 10 operētājsistēmas izmantošanas savos viedtālruņos, dodt zaļo gaismu nepiedodami nedrošajai Google Android operētājsistēmai. Reuters norāda, ka šādas baumas nāk vienlaikus no četriem uzticamiem avotiem.
BlackBerry šobrīd ir pussoli no Android, jo pastāv pavisam oficiāla iespēja ielādēt un izmantot Android lietotnes no Amazon veikala. Amazon lietotņu veikals nāk jau rūpnīcā uzstādīts BlackBerry 10 operētājsistēmai. BlackBerry operētājsistēmas izplatība ir zem 1% visā pasaulē, kamēr Android ieņem stabilu pirmo vietu ar aptuveni 78%.
Daļa no BlackBerry biznesa ir citām mobilajām operētājsistēmām veidotās lietotnes. Jau vairākkārt norādīts, ka BlackBerry var nākties atteikties no viedierīču ražošanas, kas nes tikai zaudējumus, un piedāvāt savu drošības risinājumu pieredzi kā pamata biznesu. Šogad BlackBerry peļņai no lietotnēm un drošības risinājumiem būtu jāsasniedz aptuveni 600 miljonus ASV dolāru. Jau šobrīd BlackBerry sadarbojas ar Samsung, lai piedāvātu uzlabotu drošību viedtālruņos, kā arī no Samsung un IBM tiek gaidīts planšetdators ar BlackBerry drošības risinājumiem.
Baumu avoti norāda, ka BlackBerry negrasās atteikties no fantastiskās fiziskās QWERTY klaviatūras un beidzot Android faniem varētu pavērties iespēja saņemt labāko no abām iesaistītajām pusēm – modernu Android operētājsistēmu, ko papildina fantastiska BlackBerry QWERTY klaviatūra.

Can that save the company now? Yeah Blackberry on Anrdroid would be just as relevant as HTC on Android. So no, it won’t. What can save Blackberry is doing a proper physical keyboard WITH a large screen touch-screen. That miracle can only be done one way, by doing a slider/folder form factor. If Blackberry pigheaded management were to try this, they would find big success. What OS that ran on is irrelevant. If they insist on doing physical keyboards with tiny screens (or ridiculous form factors like Passport that still don’t have a proper wide screen but are hideous for the pocket) they will die. If they do those lousy touch-screen non-physcical keyboard Blackberries they are an iPhone or Android copycat without any of the benefits, and will die. There is only one way for Blackberry to survive – a hybrid phone that has BOTH the physical keyboard AND a large touch-screen of 4.5 inches or more. A slider-folder. Going Android will cost them $$$ without any gains. Good luck with that.”
